This Spanish lay is shown by Lockwood: American Dictionary of Printing and Bookmaking (1894) as the most common case lay in use in Spain. The box shown as ¢ is for broken letters (ie the hell box), and ¦ represents the single dagger. The case lay is the same as the Caja Normal shown in Enciclopedia Vniversal Illvstrada (1928), apart from the position of the 4-em box (which might simply be an incorrect transcription). However the configuration and lay differ from the Caja Española of Morato (1933).
