This Portugese typecase lay for French is the Caixa francesa shown by Da Silva, Manual do Tipografo, 2nd ed. 1962. It has 114 boxes, and is the same structure as the French Single shown by Hostletter in 1949-1963 as in use in Paris. However, da Silva shows differences, for example, in the superiors, and the position of w and excludes ffi and ffl. Both have U J out of alphabetic sequence, as with English lays, but also have W in the far right of the case.

The empty configuration is French Single.
