This French case is the Casse Française shown by Dumont: Vade-Mecum du Typographe, 2nd ed 1894, and the Parisienne by Muller: Nouveau Manuel de Typographie (nd but c.1910) as one of the many then current versions of French cases. By omitting small capitals and superiors, it is possible to accommodate all the type in one single case. With 110 boxes, it has a more regular arrangement of boxes than La Rationnelle. The type layout is La Parisienne.

In the 19th and early 20th century, there were in use both single cases such as these, and pairs of cases such as La Haut de Casse and La Bas de Casse.
