This U.S. case lay is given in the Hamilton Manufacturing Co Catalog (c.1897) shown in Pryor: The History of the California Job Type Case, in the Journal of the Printing Historical Society No.7 (1971), and it is shown in American Type Founders American Line Type Book (1906) and Barnhart Bros & Spindler Book of Type Specimens No.9 (1907) and Hamilton Manufacturing Company, Modern Cabinets, Furniture and Materials for Printers, Catalog 14 (c.1907) and Modern Printing Office Furniture Catalog 15 (1922) and Printing Plant Equipment, Type Storage Section Catalog 16 (c.1932) as their model 2860 case, and also in Thompson Cabinet Co Thompson Equipment for Printing Plants, Catalog 47 (c.1949). It is 213/4 x 165/8 ins rather than the 323/16 x 165/8 ins of the full-size Dearing Job, but has exactly the same lay. There is a slightly different lay shown by e.g. Palmer & Rey in 1892.

Hamilton claimed that the case has the largest capacity of any two-third case. The empty configuration is the California Two Third of Palmer & Rey (1884) (which, it should be noted, is not the same as a Two-Third California (Yankee) or Two-Third California).
