This U.S. typecase construction is shown in Thompson Cabinet Company's Thompson Equipment for Printing Plants Catalog 47 c.1949. as case no. 13145. The case has 49 boxes and measures 121/2 x 121/2 x 13/16 inches, and thus is slightly smaller than a half case. See for example the 162/3 x 141/2 inch Half Upper Case of Miller & Richard, Caslon et al.

A possible lay is the Half Cap Case of Hamilton Manufacturing Company.
