This typecase construction is a Scottish Improved Double Case in use at the Alembic Press from 1974 to 2009, but unfortunately with no identification of the manufacturer. This style of case was also in use at Glasgow School of Art in 2005. The improvement in the case is to have only five rows in the upper case (right hand) section, thus allowing larger boxes for the capitals. The unimproved Double case differs only by having nine or seven rows of boxes in the upper case section. However, there are other improved versions, which have five rows or six rows.

A possible lay for the case is the Scottish Double used by the Alembic Press.
