This Italian lay is that in Enciclopedia Italiana (1937). The box with # represents a cross. Note that J and U are in their alphabetic sequence, unlike UK/US cases. Note also the position of j and k, and that W is in the cassa bassa. The companion Lower Case is Cassa Bassa. It is not clear whether these two cases exist as two separate cases, or as one combined case. Lockwood in 1894 showed two separate cases, but a later edition of the Enciclopedia in 1949 shows a Single case, as does Hostettler in 1963, albeit with a very different configuration.

The empty case configuration is Cassa Alta.
