This U.S. lay is the model 2770 case shown in Hamilton Manufacturing Co: Modern Printing Office Furniture Catalog 15 (1922), Hague: Textbook of Printing Occupations (1922), American Type Founders: Catalogue (1923), Polk: The Practice of Printing (1926 and 1937) and is the model 12770 in Thompson Cabinet Co: Equipment for Printing Plants Catalog 47 (c1949) and in Missouri-Central Type Foundry: Price List (1959). Hamilton Manufacturing Co: Printing Plant Equipment, Type Storage Section Catalog 16 (c.1932) and Kelsey: Printers Supply Book (1969) show the same lay, apart from omitting £ and replacing AE with @ and OE with %.

The empty case configuration is Triple. Note the 4th, 5th, 6th rows have larger boxes than the other rows. This row construction is similar to the News Cap (model 2720) of Hamilton (1922), and Henry (1917) through to American Printing Equipment and Supply Co (1983), whereas the normal English cap (upper) cases have all 7 rows the same size, following Moxon. The earlier ATF Type Line Book (1906) shows the Triple case with all rows the same size, on the English Treble pattern. Confusingly, ATF in 1923 show a Hebrew Cap case, with all boxes still the same size, which they say is the same as their model 2720 Cap case, despite the difference.
