Empty Scottish Improved Double Case

This typecase construction is the Scotch Improved Double Jobbing Case illustrated by Stephenson, Blake & Co.: Printing Material & Machinery (1922), and Caslon: Printing Materials (1925). It has been in use at the Alembic Press from 1974 to 2009. The improvement is to have only five rows in the upper case (right hand) section, thus allowing larger boxes for the capitals. There are other versions, which have five rows, with only the top the smallest or six rows. A possible lay for the case is the Double of Glasgow School of Art.

Note that the Scottish ordinary Double case differs by having nine or seven rows of boxes in the upper case section.
