Empty Gem Music Lower Case

This English typecase configuration is shown in Southward: Modern Printing (1st ed 1898, and still in 8th ed 1954), as being for the lay used for Miller & Richard's Gem music type. The Upper case lay which he also gives, uses a normal Treble case. However, Southward also shows a different, empty, Lower and Upper case, which he considered more useful for the differing sizes of founts supplied by the various founders.
