CORRUGATIONS

speculations on Australian tin

The Alembic Press is delighted to bring you Corrugations, an unusual artists' book that comprises two separate books which are designed to be viewed together.
Both books are accordian folded; the larger book displays linocuts by Katie Clemson of corrugated tin buildings from across the continent of Australia, integrated with an atmospheric poem by Anne Bell, specially commissioned for this book. The smaller book, of continuous linocuts by Katie, is a representation of an endless urban tin fence. When viewed together the gutsy, graffiti-covered fence makes a perfect foil for the starker images of the larger book where the buildings shimmer in the Australian heat.
The two books, along with a separate four-colour artist's print, and a leaf with Anne Bell's poem, are presented in a solander box.

Katie Clemson was a printmaker specialising in relief techniques who lived and worked in both UK and Australia. She is represented in London by the Redfern Gallery and in Australia by Beaver Galleries, Canberra. She has had eighteen one-man shows of her linocuts and is co-author of the Complete Manual of Relief Printmaking.

Anne Bell is an Australian poet and artist. She is twice winner of the prestigious Henry Lawson award for verse. Her poetry has been published in anthologies in Australia, the UK and the USA and one of her works Wind in your Face was printed as a children's picture book. She writes with love about Australia with a keen sense of history, an eye for detail, and an ear for the music of the words.

Claire Bolton is a letterpress printer and book designer. She has run The Alembic Press for over 30 years. Her books are in libraries and collections throughout the world. Making the format of a book an integral part of the whole, so that it enhances and reflects the subject matter, has always been an important feature of her work.

The text is hand set and printed in 36 point Spectrum italic, and the book designed and bound by Claire Bolton at The Alembic Press. The books are bound in Maziarczyk pastepaper covered boards and the solander boxes, in red cloth, are by Chris Hicks. A signed, numbered and limited edition of 35 copies of which 30 were for sale. Now almost sold out.
