This Portugese typecase lay of 1876 is that of Castro & Irmão shown in da Silva, Manual do Tipógrafo, 2nd ed. 1962. Whilst W is kept well away from the other caps, K, U and J are incorporated, but very few of the caps are in alphabetic sequence. A translation of da Silva's explanation of this case is awaited. The spacing shown in the source was pictorial, but here is shown as the presumed named English equivalent, but may well be 1pontos, 1½pontos, 2pontos, 2½pontos, meios quadratin, quadratin. Unfortunately the reproduction used as the source was indistinct regarding the accents, so some shown above may not be quite correct. The e m r etc. are superiors, but again the reproduction was indistinct. A more traditional Portugese case lay is Portugese Single.

Castro's case has 132 boxes, is 74x69cm, and the empty case is Portugese Single.
