This typecase configuration matches that of Barnhart Bros & Spindler: Pony Specimen (1890s), and American Type Founders: Specimen of Wood Type and Catalogue of Printers Wood Goods and Materials (1893), and American Type Founders Co. (Central Type Foundry): Blue Book (1895). Note the additional narrow boxes where h and o normally go. The left hand box should be narrower than the right hand box, in each case. A very similar version is shown by Southward in 1892, but with only the h box divided. An earlier version for German is shown by MacKellar in 1870, without these subdivisions, and a later version is shown by Lockwood in 1894, with the subdivisions horizontal rather than vertical, and with a wide box for w (under 0 9).
