This English typecase configuration matches the Double Case of Miller & Richard: Price List (1873) reprinted by Bloomfield (1974). It uses the standard configuration of upper case, ie seven rows of equal sized boxes. Overall, the case has 54 lower case and 49 upper case boxes. It differs slightly from Miller & Richard's 1895 Double case, and other later Doubles, as it has an extra box above the e box. The later cases have only 53 lower case boxes. However, it is unlike the U.S. Job cases, which create the extra (54th) box by dividing the box that is above the i box.

Pryor: History of the California Job Type Case, in Printing Historical Society JournalNo.7 (1972) dates the first appearance of the Double case in the United Kingdom as 1851.
