This Belgian lay is the Casse Ordinaire haut de casse of Dumont: Vade-Mecum du Typographe (1894 and 4th ed 1915) as used in the Brussells School of Typography. It differs, for example, from the French Upper of Muller: Nouveau Manuel de Typographie (nd but c.1910) in having even more small boxes, and having the accents in different rows. The companion Lower is Belgian French Lower.

The boxes with A,B, etc are small caps. The d e etc represent superior characters. The --- is an em rule, and ¦ box is a single dagger. Note the location of W, and that like Diderot and Lockwood, the j and ; are in the Upper case and é and ç are in the Lower case. Note that the boxes in the right bay should all be the same size, apart from the divided boxes. The empty configuration is French Upper.
