This U.S. lay is shown as a Hamilton case in Henry: Printing for School & Shop (1917), and the Upper News or Cap case in Polk: Vocational Printing (1918). It is shown in Hamilton Manufacturing Co: Catalog 15 (1922) and 16 (c.1932) as model 2720 and described as a revised style of case, with more room for the most used characters. It is also shown by Hague: Textbook of Printing Occupations (1922) as both a Cap News and a Double Cap case, and is the Cap case of American Type Founders: Catalogue (1923), and Gujarati Type Foundry: Type Book (1928 and still current in 1980s). It is the News Upper shown in Polk: The Practice of Printing (1926 and 1937). It is the News Cap (12720) shown in Thompson Cabinet Co: Catalog 47 (1949) and (12720-T) in Missouri-Central Type Foundry: Price List (1959). Whilst the type lay is the same as in the older Hamilton Cap case, it differs from Barnhart Bros & Spindler as & replaces fl (which is in the Hamilton Lower case), fractions are in a different order, and some signs are different. The fractions and signs match MacKellar, though he reverses large and small caps, and & replaces & and hair replaces &

The boxes with A, etc are small caps. The box ¦ is really a single, and ¦¦ a double, dagger. The boxes «, «», » are really bottom, middle and top of a 3 piece brace. The -- is a 1em rule, --- 2em and ---- 3em, and { a 2em brace and { a 3em brace.

The empty typecase configuration is the News Cap, which is still being shown by American Printing Equipment and Supply Co (1983). Note the 4th, 5th, 6th rows have larger boxes than other rows, unlike the earlier Upper case with all boxes the same size. In 1923, ATF still show such a case, as a Hebrew Cap case, although they state this to be the same as the model 2720 Cap case.
