This English layout is used by the Alembic Press since 1974 in their English double jobbing cases. Note that eg U, J, figures, etc are not in their traditional boxes, but in strict alphabetic order. Also, mid and thick spacing is swapped, as the Press tends to wordspace with mids rather than the more traditional thicks. Note that the AE box also contains ae, and OE contains oe.
The empty configuration matches the 1897 Caslon Improved Double Case, and has the top two rows in the upper case bay smaller than the bottom four rows, thus allowing more space for the capitals..
